Preamble
The Oracle/PLSQL LOWER function converts all characters in a specified string into lower case. If there are characters in the string that are not letters, they do not affect this function.
Syntax of the Oracle/PLSQL LOWER function
LOWER( string1_id )
Parameters and function arguments
- string1_id – string for lowercase conversion.
The LOWER function returns a string value.
The LOWER function can be used in the following versions of Oracle/PLSQL
|
Oracle 12c, Oracle 11g, Oracle 10g, Oracle 9i, Oracle 8i
|
Let’s consider some examples of the LOWER function and learn how to use the LOWER function in Oracle PLSQL.
SQL> SELECT LOWER('Charles Dickens') FROM DUAL;
-result: charles dickens
SQL> SELECT LOWER('CHARLES DICKENS 1812 - 1870 ') FROM DUAL;
-result: charles dickens 1812 - 1870 '
